Tensions flared during the Supreme Court hearing on March 18 concerning the Electoral Bond case, as Chief Justice DY Chandrachud engaged in a verbal confrontation with advocate Mathews Nedumpara. A video capturing the intense exchange has surfaced on social media, drawing attention to the heated proceedings.
Advocate Mathews Nedumpara asserted during the hearing that the entire judgment in the Electoral Bond case was delivered without the knowledge of the citizens. Despite attempts by the judges to express their disagreements, Nedumpara persisted in talking over them and raising his voice.
In response, CJI DY Chandrachud rebuked Nedumpara stating "DON'T SHOUT AT ME! If you want to move an application, file an application. WE ARE NOT HEARING YOU."
Despite the warning, Nedumpara continued to speak, prompting Justice Gavai to intervene with a stern inquiry, "You want contempt notice?"
On Monday, SC took a firm stance against the State Bank of India on the electoral bond case. The court directed SBI to disclose the bond numbers and instructed the bank to submit an affidavit by Thursday evening affirming that it is not withholding any information.
